< A Fruit Tea Made with Hard Work by the Hakkas to Serve Only the Valuable Guests >
Hutou orange (Citrus aurantium L. cv) is mostly used to decorate the Taoist altar commonly found in Taiwanese households. Due to the acidic taste
of this kind of orange, only a few people actually eat it for food. The Hakkas (an ethnic group in Taiwan) then make it into a citrus tea that has a long
shelf life to keep. It's created by mixing the flesh of the oranges with tea leaves and other types of herbs and then rotating the steps between steaming
and sun-drying the mixture nine times. This sour orange tea is used to treat only the valuable guests in the Hakka village for how time-consuming and
labor-intensive it is to make. Not only does it have a pleasant orange smell, but it also has the benefit of keeping your throat moist for a better voice.
